Child Named After Facebook ‘Like’ Button
As the social networking site Facebook gets more popular by the day, it was reported that one couple in Israel have named their daughter after the site’s ‘Like’ button on her first birthday on April 16.
The Facebook ‘Like’ button is used to express agreement or approval in response to the updates of other users. A ‘thumbs up’ icon sits beside the word ‘Like’. In the localised version of Facebook in Korean, the text ‘좋아해요’ ['Like' in Korean] is used in place of ‘Like’.
The couple said, “We wanted to give our child a unique name, and the Facebook ‘Like’ button is one of the icons that reflect our current society. We definitely did not give her the name with the intention to promote Facebook.” However, it appears that their friends and relatives did not take very well to the name ‘Like’.
Like has two older sisters named Dvash (meaning ‘Honey’ in Hebrew) and Pie.
